"New Text Message" button/app/widget ??

Hi all,

Can't find a very simple thing: I need a button on the home screen that displays the phone's standard New Text Message screen. I.e. instead of pressing link to "Text Messaging" and then pressing "New text message" button I'd like to have a single-click button that immediately shows the original message composing screen.

Quite surprised that I haven't found it in standard Adnroid features and even more suprised I didn't find anything related on the Android Market. Am I doing something wrong or didn't search well?

The phone is Motorola Atrix with Android 2.2 & motoblur.

Thanks!

Some apps like handcent and go sms have widgets for messaging. There is a new message option on it.
Thanks for that, but neither have a "New message" widget/link that I can add to the homescreen. They both have widgets, but I still have to press the screen twice to start composing a message.

Probably I'm just lazy, but I'm still curious why there no such a simple and obvious feature.

I have an Atrix and use Handcent as my SMS app. There is an option to have a popup window that can appear over the lock screen. You can reply to messages from this and see all the new messages. There is a widget that will display the number of new messages too.

Ok. I think I understand now. You want a widget to create a new SMS? If that is the case, you might be out of luck.

Oh, ok. I think Minimalistic Text and Widgetsoid are able to do that. What you do is configure MT to open another activity on tap, then you select your messaging app. After that, you select the messaging app process that corresponds to opening the new message screen. Same thing for widgetsoid.

If you don't want to download a new SMS app, you are download a small and simple SMS Pop app. When you get a text a big pop up window pops up the message over your screen, and you can reply directly to it without entering your SMS app. Other more advances SMS apps like hadncent and my favorite: Go SMS Pro have this feature also.
