New to a tablet, assist requested

I am new to the use/operational features of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0). I am pretty good with computer, but I am having trouble adjusting to the tablet. Assistance is respectfully requested. I have downloaded to applications: 1) impetus_interval_timer_apk and 2) Babylon9_set up.exe. I can see both have downloaded they show up in the downloaded folder.. Unfortunately multiple times. I have figured out how to delete the extras. How do I activate the apps? Nothing happens when I try to click on them. They are not showing up in either the application or the widgets section. soory if I am not using the correct terminology. Please if possible provide step by step directions. Thanks in advance.

Where have you downloaded the stuff anyway? You should just download apps from the Google Play Store, so they will directly install into the phone.
