new to android

This is my first android phone,my question is that im going on holiday to turkey and would like to know how to just turn my phone into its most basic functions,e.g calls, texting and camera, as i would come back with a hefty bill. Im currently with vodafone sim only as i bought the phone from play.com.
Any Help would would be much appreciated.

Yes, just don't switch on mobile internet while you are out of the country. It's in the settings menu.
