New to Androids - Have a few questions.

Hello:

I'm going to admit right off that I'm a gadget geek. Anytime something new comes out I usually have to get it right away. I've had the iPad a couple of different times and just didn't like it. I recently purchased the Motorola Xoom and love it so far.

I do have a few questions that I'm hoping to get answers to:

I'm looking for an app that will open Word, Powerpoint, and Excel files and let me really edit them. I've tried a couple of apps and they seem to use the term 'edit' loosely. I want to be able to open my Word files and continue typing on them. I want to be able to add formulas and format cells in Excel, and be able to work on powerpoint documents. What's the best app that will allow me to do this?

I've seen some apps that allow me to login to my desktop remotely and access everything that is on my computer. Do these apps work well? If I'm connected to my computer and save a file, am I saving it to my computer or am I saving it to my Xoom? Which brings me to another question....

I've put dropbox on my computer and have figured out how to put photos and videos on it and I'm sure I can put my office documents on it as well but is there another method or app that will allow me to put documents right on the screen of my Xoom?

The other question that I have, for now, is in regards to Rooting. I do not know ANYTHING about rooting. Is it the same as 'jailbreaking' an iphone? It seems like there are plenty of apps out there for everything I need, or would use the Xoom for, but I am kind of peeved that I can't use the micro SD card and it seems like the only way I'm going to be able to use the micro SD card is by rooting my Xoom. Is this true? Are there any other benefits to rooting it?

For those who have tried the Xoom and other Android tablets are there other Android tablets that are just as good as the Xoom but cost less? (I just got my Xoom three days ago so have plenty of time to return it if I find something else :) ) I like the size of the Xoom so I wouldn't want to go any smaller.

Thanks in advance for the answers and I'm typically pretty active in forums once I have info I can share.

Thanks
Dave

Google recently has released Google Docs, which is free to use and allows you to edit your documents. Alternatively, you can buy Documents to GO or QuickOffice full versions.
