New to the forums - looking for 1st smartphone

Hello everyone.

Joined here hoping to be able to do some research, hear from people who own smartphones - and in the end make an informed decision on a smartphone.

Have only ever owned one smartphone before which was a Nokia 5xx0 something from Wind mobile. Overall hated it, went on the internet randomly at it's own will and drained the battery, randomly shut off, slew of of other 'minor' problems which I all dealt with..

The final deal breaker? It's reception was terrible, get out of the city, even down by the water to the beach - 0 bars. I would miss calls and ultimately the phone even severed a few relationships/prevented others. Very disappointing.

I am back on a candybar Nokia 5220 I've had for years. I love the phone, but it's reception is not the greatest (Albeit a lot better than my Nokia smartphone). It takes awhile to text, and the phone does nothing special - just fine for me right now.

I just bought a new car though, with full bluetooth access inside the car and going back to school - I thought maybe it's time to pick up a new phone. Since my first smartphone was such a piece, I am looking for a real first one now that will provide a good experience.

Researching heavily at GSM Arena- however all phones seem to have their trade offs. So I am here to make the best choice, so far I am pitted between an HTC (Amaze namely) and a Saumsung 'Galaxy' phone. The samsungs look/sound great, but the screens are huge and there is more than a dozen galaxy/nexus phones now and it's a bit annoying trying to discern whats the best one to go with.

ANYWAYS, thats my intro for anyone cared to read. See you out there on the forums!

You looking for a phone to go with a contract or a no contract phone? What is important to you in a phone? There are so many, it really all depends on what you are looking for.

I have the Samsung Exhibit II 4G through t-mobile's no contract. Great phone, doesn't compare to high end phones like the Galaxy SII or the Galaxy Nexus, but for the price and the plan, it's a great phone. Plus it also depends on what kind of service you get from certain providers where you're located.

Well for one I am up in Canada (Vancouver), so as far as getting a great contract/provider - that's not gonna happen! :P

Our providers up here are few, and they all corner the market into a limited a selection of contracts - most of which will cost you around $100/month if you want internet access.

I am currently looking for an unlocked, and will be using it with a provider called CHATR (a Rogers subsidiary), I may or may not add data at the moment... I am going to be buying a smartphone mainly for something with a lot more options for times to come. As well I want something that will provide good audio quality/bluetooth (for my car - source for playing music).
