New to the V10

Newbie
My work phone was a Samsung Galaxy S6 however due to an unfortunate battery fizzle and pop it died and I received this V10 as a replacement. Approximately 24hrs with the phone now and I have to say I am a little underwhelmed. The performance is nice enough, nothing really is sticking out as lacking, but not over the top. The FPS I got with Monjori is 62 for example. The screen, while huge, isn't tremendous for me, but that could be related to the OLED I had on the S6. The weight is substantially more at 6.7oz than most phones I have been using and you feel that using it. Battery life is pretty generic for a modern phone, so lousy, but still better than the S6 was. (#BlameTouchwiz). The camera is pretty amazing, however that is the big claim to fame on the device anyway. Overall I don't have many complains other than it doesn't fit in my pocket well and I cannot one-hand the phone with the same ease.

my 2 cents.

Thanks for the straight-forward review.

It's a bit different than the Sammy's ... and for that reason I embraced it. After surfing throughout the phone, I now love this phone. It's not as if it's the perfect replacement for something I've been used to for 4 years, but I acclimated to it after just a few days and now don't miss my old Sammy at all.

Check back in a week, I'd like to see how you feel about it then ... especially as you seem to put forth a real perspective, not just bashing every difference or crying about one-off problems as if it's the end of civilization.

Thanks for that.

I can I wish I would have received it soon to get in on the LG Promotions for the extra battery and charger. If I didn't have the fast charger, and near an outlet most of the day, I would be sunk.

Shame you're not getting the battery life I am.

The disparity between what different users get under similar usage is mind boggling.

I believe it has to do with the screen brightness and programs running in the background. I run at 35% brightness (plenty for me, an old fart like me over 50), and I'm clearing open apps often.
2 to 4 hours talking
10 to 50 texts
10 to 60 emails - (long, detailed, multi-page documents need reading and responding in similar length).

I don't use a launcher or custom roms.
I run a stock phone.
Verizon.

And I'm at 30% over a 10, sometimes 12 hour day.

Hope somewhere in this post is something helpful you can use to tweak some time out of your battery.

@SaintlySins I have the screen on auto as far as brightness, probably going to add CF Lumen tonight. That said the auto keeps it at 20-40% brightness. Also this is a work phone so there are a number of apps related to "phoning home;" Duo Secuirty, AirWatch, Lookout, TouchDown, etc... That and it is paired with my Asus Zenwatch, so constant bluetooth connection. All and all not terrible, but not great either.

Welcome To The LG V10 Community! :thumbsupdroid:

Admittedly not knowing the nature of your employment, having all of those security apps installed sounds like a little overkill & has to be a serious drag on the battery.
At least you do have the option of getting a spare battery kit.
The price on 'em has dropped significantly since people 1st started getiing their freebies & selling 'em on e-Bay.
If you go that route, ensure the package does indeed include both the extra battery & the charging dock,as some of the e-Bayers are selling one or the other.

I haven't received my extra battery and charging dock as of yet (probably not for another couple weeks based on the timelines others are posting) ... maybe I'll get a second set off eBay while I wait as I could use 2 once the new office is finished and we move in.

Thanks for the tip Kolio.

Well honestly they each have their place and they aren't the battery drain really. According the to phone it is the screen (obviously) and generic system nonsense.

Overall it isn't terrible but then again I am used to having 1.5 days of constant use out of my test devices.

Make sure you have all the Google Now app disabled. And smart screen. Those were two battery killers on my phone other than the screen.

I'll take you up on the smart screen, but the Google Now I actually use and I find it helpful. I also don't see that as the big contender on my battery life so far.

Great to here you are enjoying the V10.
As for not fitting in a pocket??? I have aways put my phones in my back pocket, V10 included, with a slim case. (Works for me).
As for battery life, I have my life set up where I have power sources handy through out the day. I am old school and I try never to let the power drop below 50%, in case of an emergency (I do the same with my car's fuel). Having a spare battery is a great comfort .

Enjoy and keep sharing your experiences.

Lateck,

Lateck,

@Lateck I am carry my phone in the same way, however with the Body Glove on it the phone almost doesn't fit. Admittedly this is the largest phone I have had at 5.7". The battery life I am of the same mind, to have charges available at multiple points throughout the day. I do think my phone is like a hobbit though, it likes it's meal frequent and hearty.

A little over 2 weeks and the LG V10 is still here. I do have one or two complains\concerns. The first is the memory\processor management seems to be lacking at times. There are times when switching between apps the phone does a health 1-2 second pause like it is lost and then we finally reach our destination.

Speaking of destinations the GPS is pretty hit or miss on this device. There are times which it knows there are satellites present and it is even in full view but locking on and pulling telemetry; no thanks.

Also the camera is finicky. Don't get me wrong it takes very nice shots in the right conditions even with a hamfist like me, but for point and shoot it gets confused or fails to capture an images as clear as the S6 did.

For example here is roughly the same shot in different modes:

Simple (literally just tap to shoot)

The last really big problem I have is the inability of this phone to successfully perform background tasks, which is why this post is taking 30 minutes to put together as well. I took the various photos, and even on the wifi here at work, thinking they would upload shortly. Well 10 minutes passed and nothing on my photos.google.com, so I jump off the wifi just to be sure isn't block. Still nothing. So I go into the accounts and manually perform a sync, and finally we have photos. Seriously not what I expect out of a flagship phone.

All and all I am content with the V10, but if I had to choose again I would probably opt for something else.
