New to this technology and I have a problem

I recently purchased a Samsung SCH-i500 mesmerize. I am not that familiar with the operating system or much else about the phone but i have found some useful apps that make this phone very handy. My problem is that now whenever I try to download a new app I get this pop up window that says " Launch Application This link needs to be opened with an application." It shows an "OK" and a Cancel Button but nothing happens no matter which button I select. Do I have a setting configured wrong? Any help would be appreciated

So that I can try to get a grasp of what's going on, where are you trying to download the apps from?

I've never seen the market respond like this.
