"New" user of Samsung Fascinate - I think I like it.

Hi all, got my Fascinate for Christmas. I like it, but I'm searching for answers to several issues I continue to have. I want to love my phone, but I need a more seamless interface!

Here's a summary of the issues I'm working on, mostly in priority order (this is more for me than for anyone reading):

1) Email scroll keeps resetting to the top of the list.
This is pretty frustrating. I try to prevent the reset by keeping my thumb on the screen, but the instant I move my thumb to the bottom of the screen (to continue the scroll), it resets to the top email.
2) Outlook attachments are not "openable".
Outlook users send me attachments which I cannot open. Not sure if this is an Outlook issue, but I would like to be able to deal with it on my side. Or, at least have a workaround that I can send the Outlook user so that they can send me the attachment.
3) Not sure if I need a gmail account copy of my AOL account.
I have AOL email, and I (mistakenly?) thought I needed to create a "shadow" gmail account for my phone interface (apparently this was to preserve the integrity of my AOL mail so that I wouldn't lose any messages). I initially set it up that way, and it was pretty nice except for a few aol/gmail interface issues. My Fascinate is now directly accessing my AOL account, which seems pretty slick. Do I really need the gmail account?
4) Considering switching to Outlook for more calendar automation.
Not high priority, but I'd like a better calendar function on my phone, with an available desktop (printable) version.

I'm a formerly-trained engineer, staying at home to raise my four boys. I've always had Tech Support at work, but it's made me weak when it comes to my Home Technology!

I look forward to combing the forums for solutions, and I'm so glad that Android is here. I hope it'll continue to give Apple some competition!

Welcome to Android Forums, Mary.

I can give you some breif answers, but for in depth discussion and troubleshooting, you should probably look in Samsung Fascinate - Android Forums.

1. This sounds like an app-specific issue, possibly with the default Samsung mail app. The forum above will know more.

2. You'll need an app to open them with first, and then you'll need to download the attachment. If you are using an exchange server, depending on the file size and the connection speed it could take some time and your phone might seem like it's not doing anything. Try downloading the file first to your sd card and opening there.

3. Your phone is registered to the market through your primary gmail account. You must keep this account or you will lose access to Google services such as the market and calendar.

4. Android does not sync natively to desktop Outlook clients. You will need a third part app to do that. If you have an exchange server, Google Calendar will sync to that.
