New Virgin Mobile Phone "Venture"

Virgin Mobile released a new phone today. It's looking like a budget phone similar to the Optimus V except it has a qwerty keyboard for easier texting. Thoughts???? Discuss below.

Indeed it does look very similar to the OV in specs. It doesn't say who made the phone though... possibly ZTE?

Also, I'm not thrilled about the inclusion of the ID software feature, which is something that Spent and more recently Boost have been putting on their phones. I hope Virgin doesn't make it a habit to put intrusive bloatware like that on their phones.

The phone is made by ZTE. The camera at 2 megapixels is kinda a disappointment but for an android phone with a keyboard at $100 no contract, it doesnt seem that bad

I am not too impressed. I'd like to see a phone for maybe $200 that's got more going for it. This is disappointing. Oh well.

For $100 I think its a great price. People can't get a wake up call that its a messaging phone meaning its not going to have fancy stuff. If i was a hard core texter I would get this phone, because its like the V but a keyboard and cheaper.

VM is Sprint... Just saying... And the fact that they are including it with a phone may mean that Sprint is actually trying to get their prepaid counterparts more of sprint and get rid of them altogether and make just 1 prepaid sprint type thing instead of having 2 different competing ones...

I understand that VM is owned by Sprint, I was just saying that I'm particularly unhaopy about the ID feature being added because it's unremovable from the stock homescreen. I don't want to see it popping up on Virgin's future phones (ones I'm more likely to get).

It is an interesting point that maybe Sprint is simply trying to consolidate its prepaid carriers, and I wouldn't be opposed to that at all.

<slightly tipsy> what ? id software on our phones ? I LOVE DooM/Quake/Rage/etc !!!! what's wrong with that ! *headbangs* </slightly tipsy>

Well, I actually lost my V last week and Ive been holding out for something fresh. I might put an order on this, I think the phone looks pretty slick and I'm a fan of the physical keyboard along with the touchscreen and the camera flash.

I wonder when Virgin Mobile will finally release a high end phone instead of all these low end phones,I think we're past due for a high end since it's almost been a year since we got the triumph

I currently have a Triumph and I just pre-ordered this phone. I do a lot of texting and even with all the custom ROMs the touch screen on the Triumph just blows, and getting a GPS signal routinely takes over 5 minutes for me. I'm going to try this out for a week or so to see if it suits my needs.

I wish SOMEONE would make a high end phone in this form factory....Like a BlackBerry Bold touchscreen running Androind would be sick.

I'll let ya know how I like it when I get it. Should be at my door early next week.

I've been thinking about jumping ship to back to TMO since they have a good selection of high end Android phones, $50 unlimited no contract plan, and are no longer going to become part of AT&T. I had them before I went to Virgin when the AT&T merger was supposed to happen expecting it to go though. Never had a problem with service anywhere.

Hmm... for 100 bucks? With 2.3, and quite possibly a WORKING AGPS unit... and maybe even a camera with somewhat decent picture quality... I may be in. I'm tired of the Triumph being second to the newer phones that are coming out. VM knows for a fact they F'ed up majorly when they released their "first Motorola phone". FROYO?!
The Optimus Slider, Wildfire and now the Venture all have 2.3 STOCK. It's a joke.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just frustrated that something new (high end) has come to VM. It isn't like I'm asking for a ICS dual core Droid Razr. I just want something that will WORK, and have a chance to actually get ICS.

How do they have 2 competeing counter parts? They sold Boost Mobile... Nor does Sprint have a prepaid line other than Virgin Mobile

I've been getting the RSS feeds from Sprint for a few months now and must of missed this press release. Share the press release link, please?

Not sure this is true though because Sprint is still announcing new phones they're pushing to Boost.
