Help Newbie: I can't see toolbar or tabs in browser

When I look at my internet there are no tabs or toolbar at the top. The user guide (p.55) points to tabs, backward/forward buttons, web browser options, reload in their diagrams but I don't see any of this on my page.

All I have is the page with no back buttons or ability to move quickly from page to page which makes searching near impossible.

Earlier threads talk about downloading special browsers but surely this should be standard in the tablet?

What am I missing here?

Assuming this is the standard browser try touching the very left or right edge of the screen. It should bring up a semi-circle of buttons. Slide over the three lines at the bottom (settings), select Labs and uncheck Quick Controls.
