newbie regarding apps

Hi i'm new to the android world and was wondering about installing apps as they ask for access and control of your messages, network communication, storage, phones calls, service that cost you money, hardware controls and system tools. I basically want to know what the risks are due to these apps requesting access to my phone. is it safe to install, etc.. thanks

Or help out the guy who had done all the research for that thread, alostpacket, and buy his app, PocketPermissions, for .99.

The nice thing about the app is that in addition to providing you all the information about permissions, it allows you to search all your installed apps to see which ones are using a given permission.

And, the app itself requires no permissions.
