Help Newbie to Android really in need of help

I bought a new tablet but have now idea how to use the Android operating system as I'm a long time Windows person (XP,Vista,Windows 7 being the later ones).

I will be using Firefox (despite it causing me to pull my hair out at times on my laptop-I know it better than other browsers).

How do I do things like save things I find on websites to the equivalent of 'Documents' ?
What is the equivalent of 'Word' ?

I have spent several days trying to come to grips with a new system- some parts of it are easier than others.

We are travelling with this tablet (laptop too heavy) in a couple of weeks time and I need to come to grips with the basics, soon!

How to use android:

Firefox:
I think you can link your pc firefox and your android firefox app.
Like Chrome(Google)
And you save links the same way your pc browser does.

Office apps:

Thank you so much, Amoco. I've read the first page of the first link and I think this is just what I need.
Had a quick glance at the Office apps...confused as to which to choose. Do you have any you prefer? My use is mainly for word docs-I don't have a need for spreadsheets and such.Would like spell check.

I wanted to thank you again for the excellent 'HowtoGeek' link you gave. I've printed off all the information I need (all of it basically!) as it's a terrific resource. It was worth the time taken. I have learnt a lot already and feel much more confident. I can totally recommend this site to other first timers to Android.
