Root Newbie to rooting, please help? :)

Hello everyone,

I know there are other guides out there but to be honest they all confuse me with version numbers etc. When it comes to smart phones I'm not that savvy.

I had a Droid X and now this Samsung Mega 6.3 - What I would like to get out of my rooting experience is...

The ability to remove and or hide things in my app drawer such as pre-installed bloat stuff.

The ability to pair things without having to enter a PIN (allowing null pins) for Wii Remotes etc.

Any any other basic cool features that will make my phone more nifty, speedy and more conservative on battery and possibly some performance increases but like I said I'm sort of new to all of this.

What I would need to know is once this is all said and done, are there specific programs in which I shouldn't remove? Like apps that my phone needs to operate? There are some of these Sprint/Samsung apps that I have no clue about and it doesn't let me hide them and it just looks gross.

Anyways, I hope this all made sense, if someone could maybe hold my hand a little through this process or point me to a guide with my specific needs it would be much appreciated!

I hear some people use CyanoGen Mod but then again I don't know what works for what.

In advanced, thanks

P.S. - Sorry if I sound ignorant, also any general tips and tricks from advanced Samsung users about how to get the most out of my phone would be greatly appreciated there are so many option and features! *head spins*

I would also like to add that I am VERY family with Windows and PC's in general, if that matters at all in the rooting process. I'm just sort of a newbie to the whole Android/iOS scene.
