Newbie trying to download movies

I tried ripping a dvd. It seemed to only get 39 seconds of it. What am i doing wrong? I've got an epic

You need to give us more details. How are you ripping it? what software? what is the source? do you get any errors?

You just get the title or the other part? DVD includes many titles, some are very short, and some are the feature film, you should pay attention to it. And some DVD Ripper is trail version and have time-limited also.
