Root Newbie tutorial plleeeaassee >.<

Okai, so as a couple of users might know, I'm completely new to all the rooting and Custom ROMS and basically just Android in general :/ I have successfully rooted, installed CWM Recovery (4.0.0.9) and backup up my original ROM. Now, I've had a look at a couple of tutorials out there for installing Custom ROMS, but i find them quite confusing :S Could somebody please type up an easy to follow/understand tutorial to install a custom ROM? :) If specific instructions apply to specific ROMs, then please give me instructions on how to install your favourite one or a highly reccommended one, thanks very very much in advance guys :)
 
follow the sticky at the top. Whichever rom you shall choose, the instructions are in the link itself. First of all install CWM Recovery
 
Thanks, but that wasn't very helpful at all, I mentioned that I found those tutorials confusing...and would've liked an easy to follow tutorial...I also did mention I have already installed CWM Recovery....
 
Bump! (again)

I'm thinking to root my ace basically because I want to be able to move apps to sd. I have a couple of questions, though. . .

Firstly - are there some apps that shouldn't be on sd? Themes, for example? Will my phone run slower if it has to go to the sd card for data, rather than the phone memory?

Secondly - custom roms. . . I'm not actually clear what they are! Are these an alternate OS? Or an OS add-on? Why use them, what do they enable you to do?

Apologies if these questions are answered elsewhere - I've not been able to find really basic answers for someone whose tech knowledge is a decade out of date!
