Newbie with Cloud Storage question

Sorry to ask a simple question, but Im still new to the whole media storage. If Im backing photos to the cloud can I remove them from my phone to free up storage? And I assume I can retrieve photos by accessing the storage app?
Want to make sure that if I delete a photo/video from my phone its not gone forever.

The general answer is yes, unless you are using an app like Dropsync for 2way sync.
If you are using 2way sync to keep you cloud folder(s) in sync with folder(s) on your phone, the file will be deleted from the cloud when you delete from phone.
What cloud service are u using?

Thx for the reply. I assume I'm using Verizon Cloud. I haven't subscribed to any third party providers
