Newbie with new white novel 7

If anyone's interested, PC Richards in NY is selling these (Pandigital novel 7 white tablets) for $79. I got one after missing out on newegg's $69 sale. It has the latest Pandigital FW (ie., with the slideme sam4 app store), but I'm looking to improve it, at the very least get utube capabilithy, amazon app store and the Kindle app, and the google app store capability on it. I'm nervous about flashing it with new FW, the android 2.0 already on it doesn't seem that bad, and I keep reading horror stories about less than successful flash attempts.
