Nexus 5 and Google Security

One thing I noticed after un-boxing my Nexus 5 and getting it setup is when Google asks you for your email address and password it will launch a chrome session to sign into if you have 2-step verification enabled. On my Google account I have a 2-step Verification enabled so any time I log into a browser or session that is unknown to Google it will send a text or call my phone with a verification code to enter in a browser.

When conducting the setup on your new Nexus 5 and you have 2-step verification enabled on you Google account make sure it is disabled under Google Settings/Security momentarily so that the process is easier. Otherwise you need to swap the SIM card again to get the code from your old phone.

Actually, time based codes do not need network connectivity to work, as long as your device clock is correct. So as long as your old phone powers on and can launch the app, there should be little reason to need to switch sims.

EDIT: I should learn to read. I just saw that you are not using the authenticator app, but the SMS service. What I said above is obviously only for the authenticator app. Just ignore me.

I believe I got around this before by opting-out of the google login at first then once i can use the phone link my google account and you can get the text at that point. It's been a while since I flashed my phone (and my Nexus 5 should be in today!) but I think that should work.

Normally you can also use an application specific password generated by google but i dont think that works with the Android linking.
