Nexus 5 and Square Trade Insurance.

I just purchased a 2 year warranty for the Nexus 5 via Square Trade for $107.00.
The Nexus 5 is not listed on their web site yet, so you will have to call to get the warranty. I personally think its a good deal.

The warranty price is $125.00 + tax - $25.00 discount.
 
Is there a deductible? Also, does it cover water damage and/or theft/loss of device? Just curious because I have tended towards not getting insurance on Nexus devices because the full retail is so cheap compared to other flagship devices.

They don't cover theft/loss of a device.

They do cover accidental though.

The other issue is I don't have another 400+ laying around to replace the phone. I am willing to spend 99 on the deductible to get it fixed.

I didn't call I just did smartphone coverage and found a discount code to make it under 100.

You can also find it cheaper through amazon.

Well, actually, you are spending $200 to insure a $400 phone. Saving $200 is nothing to sneeze at, I admit, but it seems less attractive to me. Probably hubris on my part born of never having damaged a phone or PDA I had. ;)

I have them as providers for last 2 years. Cannot say anything, because did not file claim with them. When I lost my phone, and asked to terminate policy, they issued refund no questions asked.

Honestly I have to agree with you on that. I suppose for people who have a history of breaking their devices its a good idea to get an extended warranty.

From what I read of this warranty you can basically get your phone repaired/replaced 3 times over 2 years (the first year is already manufacturer covered for hardware defects), at which point you will have put out the same amount of money as if you had simply bought another $400 phone.

Also if you purchased the phone with certain credit cards they give you an additional year to your warranty.

I use Worth Avenue Group for my device insurance. $50 deductible and the policy covers both water damage and theft (and they defined theft for me as "you know where your phone was, and it is no longer there. For example, if you leave your phone on the table at a restaurant and it isn't there when you go back, that's theft, not lost. Lost means you know where it is and can't retrieve it, such as at the bottom of a lake."

I have had to make both a theft claim and a repair claim. They weren't lightning fast on the repair, but I had a check for the full value of my Note II minus the deductible within a week of making my theft claim. Also, on many repairs, they will simply cut you a check for the full retail cost of the device minus deductible, rather than fixing the device. I think the "repair" portion of the coverage primarily applies to cracked screens.
