Check this out: Nexus 5 Cellular Radio Bug/Issue - YouTube
The Problem? The Nexus 5 will sometimes not reconnect back after Connecting to EDGE in a low signal area with no LTE or HSPA and will be stuck on Edge regardless of reboot/Airplane Mode.
You can reproduce this 2 Ways
Make sure Wifi and bluetooth and airplane mode is off. Go into a known area where you have no HSPA and or LTE and have EDGE, then return to the Area with LTE or HSPA, Sometimes you will find it will be stuck on edge (50% Chance doesn't do it all the time but mostly does for me)
another way to replicate: Go into settings and Mobile networks then Preferred network type select 2G wait for it to register and see the E on the Top for the signal indicator then go back select 3G or LTE and you will find it will be stuck on EDGE (Different behavior from the HTC One in the Video)
BTW Both the Nexus 5 and the HTC one are on T-Mobile and Both are 100% stock and both have NEW simcards from T-Mobile and BOTH have Android 4.4.2
