Nexus 5 interface?

I haven't held a Nexus since the day the original came out. I returned it the next day. It just wasn't for me. I was used to UI's from HTC, Samsung, and others, and the 'pure' android' experience wasn't working for me. It just seemed like it required more steps on my part navigate around the functions. I actually wanted the manufactures' added interface to help me through my daily tasks. Just my personal take, just my personal needs and preferences.

So, has the Nexuses (Nexi ?) continued to be interface free or are they started adding interfaces since that original gnex, geared towards casual users like me? Otherwise I may lean towards the G2.

The Nexus has the stock Android interface, though it has improved quite a bit over the last several Android versions. What most people do is 1) since the Nexus bootloader is unlocked they load a custom ROM that has a highly customizable interface that they want or 2) they load a launcher from the Play Store. There are a lot of third party launchers that are extremely good, plus you get to choose how you want it to look/perform rather than being stuck with what the manufacturer includes.

Sounds like an un-researched impulse buy. Most people I know invest a period of time gathering facts, in order to make sure they're choosing wisely

My first droid - about 4 years back - had HTC Sense and I really liked it. At the time, when I saw other phones with vanilla android or whatever Samsung's UI was at the time, I thought they were absolutely awful - and hideously ugly.

When I got the Nexus 4, I did think I would end up getting some kind of launcher to try to replicate something approaching Sense.

Turns out, Android has improved a lot in the last 4 years. I didn't find vanilla any less usable than Sense and realised pretty quickly that actually, I didn't miss Sense at all. Consequently, I've never bothered trying a launcher.

Having said that, I had a play with an HTC One recently and the interface is definitely way prettier than vanilla. So far as I could tell though, that's all it is: better eye candy not better usability. That's not to say there's anything wrong with enjoying the eye candy, of course :D

The other thing is that HTC and Samsung do have their own add-ons like Samsung's eyeball tracking (or head tracking according to my missus when she tried it) and HTC's downloadable maps. If you want any of those, you're SOL with vanilla.

.. at least until Google steal the ideas ;)
