Help Nexus 5 manufacturer problem

Alright... here goes...

So I ordered my Nexus 5 from Google Play on November 6th of this year and I finally received an email last Tuesday telling me it shipped and that I was to receive it by Friday.
So, UPS being the ****ups they are sometimes, messed up my location and mailbox and the package was delayed up until I just went and collected it from the UPS store downtown.

Now, keep in mind that I've been phoneless for about 2 weeks since my Samsung S4 broke, and I've been stressed out and the fact that I finally had my hands on a phone I can claim mine, you could only imagine my excitement.
So, I get home, unbox the package and VOILA! The beautiful Nexus 5...

So you know, I start up everything slowly and when it was time to insert my SIM card, I encountered the most intense problem.

There was absolutely no hole to pin in order to open the SIM card tray.

I am not shitting you. Here's a picture or two:

(sorry for the crappy quality, I only have a webcam camera on me but I'm sure you can see that there is NO HOLE!!!!)

So I ended up calling Google with a friend's phone and they were as confused as I was. They transferred me to the shipment adviser of the firm, but alas, the phone call got disconnected. Soon after, I received an email from her telling me in order to go through with the replacement process, I must first give her my IMEI (serial number) to which I gladly gave.

It's been more than 24 hours and I haven't gotten any responses yet.
I've tried calling, emailing, but no luck WHATSOEVER!

What am I to do? I am traveling for a month in less than 2 weeks and I can't be phoneless, and I won't stand my ground since I've paid $467 for this 32GB version.

Here is where I ask for advice or any help:

What should I do?
Is Google trying to avoid my problem? I'm not quite understanding why I haven't gotten any response back.

I'm about to start exams next week and you could only imagine my stress, frustration and anxiety with this occurrence.

I searched online for anybody who has my problem but turns out I may just be the only one...

P.S. I accidentally did drop the phone (don't worry, no scratches at all) and the tray seemed to open but I am too afraid to close it for now).

It's Thanksgiving. They're probably closed on Friday. That'll back them up a few days. You'll probably hear by the end of next week.

Irrelevant - this is about a phone, not about a travel agency. Your travel plans have nothing to do with their work schedule.

BTW, did you bring the phone into your carrier's store and ask them if they could insert the SIM card for you (just acting clueless)?

Is Google trying to avoid my problem?
I doubt it. The hassle of doing that isn't worth the cost of the phone to them.

Thanksgiving.

I'm in the UK but how google operates over here is thus.I had a dodgy phone so they told me to go through the ordering process as if i was buying a new phone.NO money leaves my account. They send me the replacement phone along with a returns envelope.I then pop the defective handset in the envelope and mail it locally.Once they process the return the transaction is complete.NO money ever leaves my account for the replacement handset and i'm not without a phone.
I think this is a good process.I assume Google operates differently over the pond.

Like Chuka said but I didn't place the order myself (with a defective N7).

I called Google Ireland (from UK) and they placed the order - which you can see on Wallet. The replacement normally arrives in 2-3 days (I replaced 2 N7s...) then you send your faulty unit back in the provided packaging and that's it.

I'm sorry to hear that your problem wasn't sorted in one call, but that's not my experience - it has always been great.

I see a hole where the sim tray is... which makes me think you have removed the sim tray....
Did it not come with the sim tray?

If you have the sim tray.... whack your sim in it and stuff it in.
You will play hell getting it back out but you will have a phone in theory.

The problem is there is no hole to push the sim tray opening tool into.
My eyes arent the best and unless i look very closely i cant see mine either.

Trust me, there isn't a hole.

It would be pretty noticeable and I wouldn't have called Google and posted this if there was actually a hole, haha.

The hole is on the bottom of the tray area looking at the side vertically. On yours is there a strip of packaging film covering it maybe?
