Hi!

Noticed that my Nexus 6 has problems with short sounds and notifactions, sounds sound distorted sometimes and I wonder if it is just my phone or if they are all like this. So please help me test one think. Theese to videos made by another guy with this problem shows what Im talking about. So please help me test this by downloading Plague Inc and go back and forth in menues. This happens for me in notifications aswell thats why it is a problem.

First video shows how it should sound and is tested from a Nexus 5:

Second video from a Nexus 6 with distorted sound in most clicks:

Just want to know if I should RMA the phone or if it is normal or a software issue.

I am curious to know if your having similar problems with the sounds in google apps, like the ding sound when hitting the google microphone on the bar, hit it a few times or even spam it and see if it makes the bad speaker pop sound. I have replaced 4 nexus 6's because of popping sounds when using google apps, even the google messenger did this with the outgoing sounds when sending a message, it bothered me so much I had to disable the sound in messenger. http://androidforums.com/threads/static-crackling-with-voice-search.889619/ This is a link here discussing this issue, test this also if you could and let me know if your having problems with the short burst sounds coming from other apps. I will install this game and see if it does this as well. I called motoroloa and sent them this link had upper tech support look into it but they told me they could not reproduce it. I also called googles support number for nexus devices and escalated it with them with no luck.

I also notice the sound starts off very low in some games and cranks itself up, does this when people call me on my phone ringtones as well, I think this is a feature where its really low but then cranks up, but it does this even when my phone is not in my pocket, and it has done this in games as well. An android game called Defenders 2 which I play alot on all the phones I have ever had is having sound issues, its a wall defender game and when you shoot the arrows from the wall the sound gets low when hitting the creatures coming twords it. I emailed the developers on it but no response, also a game called Sparkle 2, it sounds weird like its a different kind of sound all together and messed up sounding, I tried to email them also but nothing. These are the only two games I have noticed sound problems with.

Just did what you did in plague inc. does the same thing, similar to those other games im talking about, like its a bad speaker sound. Google needs to get there shit together and fix these problems. starting to get really pissed about it lol. Made the sound just hitting the play button to play a game.

I get the same problem as you in other places aswell. In the Hangouts app for example, often the sound the phone makes when sending a text is distorted or just sounds like pop. Downloaded Zedge app which has all the Hangouts notification sounds and from Zedge I can play the exact same sound over and over again without distortion. So I think its a software problem. I also get this distortion for example with the Plague game when using headphones.

Glad someone else is noticing this, if you want to help please call google directly and tell them you want to complain about this problem and that you also have a link in the android forums discussing this issue, if you don't do this, its not going to get looked at. Also I would tell them to escalate it to a higher level of tech support, and that you have done everything possible to fix it with no luck. I would also call motorola and report this and tell them the same thing, because both places just try to do your standard troubleshooting which does not work. 4 nexus 6 later and all have the same problem, it does no good to reset the phone, and getting a new one sent to you will not work either, its a problem with the software, possibly even in lollipop. I think google is so stock that they don't realize they need to put more detail into bugs like this, they probably don't even notice it or don't have enough people complaining about it yet. Like I was saying before, I used to have the HTC M8 and the boomsound speakers did this same exact thing, I was bummed out bad for months because that pop sound was getting on my last nerves, the issue was fixed months later by an ota update that was from HTC and was not an android update, it was a small software update that fixed it completely with all sounds. But this is googles issue and they need to fix it. I can tell they are not putting enough in, just like when you try to reset the phone and you can only shut it down, stock android is great but its so simplified that I don't think they worked out the kinks such as the management of the power going to the speakers with quick sound files or the driver that loads before the sound happens, like in google voice or messenger. Who knows what is causing it but people need to call and complain on phone or through email in the support section.

Anyone with the sound issues should also submit feedback via the phones own feedback form in the About Phone section in your settings.

At least that goes direct to Google/Motorola.

Hi there,

Apologies if this is a silly question. I've recently purchased my first Android device, the Nexus 6 running Lollipop 5.0.1.

I really like the handset but there is one thing that is really grinding my gears:mad::mad::mad:, the screen lock/unlock sound, it's terrible! It sounds like a static hissing or popping sound and is hard to hear even when the volume is set to maximum.

I've been trawling the web trying to find a solution but so far have drawn a blank. My question is can this sound be changed to something a bit more effective/less annoying? I know I can switch the screen lock sound off but in my mind this is admitting defeat (silly I know but that's how it is!). I'm new to android so don't know a lot about the operating system, I'm hoping some of you android veterans/gurus can help me out. It's only a small detail but it's really driving me insane:confused::confused:.

Any advices greatly appreciated.

Hiya bosco!
Pretty sure the only way to change the unlock/lock sound is to root the device. That will allow you to change the sound which resides under the /system partition somewhere.
Without root, you cannot change files under that partition ;)

If you are interested in root, take a look at our Nexus 6 rooting forum here:

Edit: moved your thread here to the Nexus 6 forum;)

Thanks for the advice Mikestony and thanks for the info on rooting, it's very much appreciated:)

I was hoping for a simple solution but if I have to root the device I will, it's annoying me that much:mad:

My first venture into Android may prove to be a baptism of fire!!

Thanks again

Correct I also have a new Nexus 6 that so bought directly from Google and the system sounds are horrible, I have a Note 4 and the Nexus 6 sounds are very low compared to my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I
I call Google and they cannot provide a solution the only one will be returning back the phone and that is what I am doing today.

I pur hased mine one month ago and the systems sounds are horrible, it feels like a very cheap cell phone. I call Google and the tech support did a test with a test unit they have and they also notice the poor quity of sounds and even the sounds when using a bluetooth. I ended returning the unit even the tech support from Google told me that they may need to do an update of the phone in order to fix this. I will buy a new unit if they fix this issue.

Suddenly I've noticed I don't have media volume. I get notification sounds but that's it. Powered off multiple times. Volume comes back then disappears. Bluetooth works for media. When making calls the speaker phone won't work. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that I wiped cache yesterday or not. Weird coincidence.

wipe cache again. if you have apps that can control media volume they could be doing some mischief under the hood.

i wiped the cache on my nex 9 lte tablet a few months ago and that caused so much issues i had to factory reset that sucka... and its bone stock and not rooted.

so yeah try on more and then look to some apps that may be interfering...

Anyone know of an app or trick to separate the volume on notifications? I want to keep the ring volume low and the text/email notification high. As it is all volumes are the same. Tried numerous apps in the play store that didn't work, thanks.
