Help nexus 6p (smart)dumbphone

I'm using my phone for ~2 months. On the beginning it was almost perfectly fine, then after 1 month of using it started to behave more and more weird. The first major and most disappointing bug that i had with my phone is connected to camera app. I was taking a video about 1 min long, when my phone crashed. I lost the video ofc, which is already disappointing enough. After that i was taking pictures not paying that much attention to my phone and after several hours i figured. that they don't appear in photos folder. They are appearing only in small preview in camera app. Next day my phone crashed again and i lost all the photos since that video.

After that, camera app is crashing from time to time and phone is getting more and more crazy.

It's crashing, restarting, heating. At some point i can't even access Settings because "Settings app stopped working", "Launcher app stopped working" and everything i'm trying to use stops working. At the moment even circle and square system buttons on the bottom are not responding.

My camera cache is 100 mb which why i still have a hope i can save them from there. That's why i'm not using factory reset. Is there any way to access that folder and copy files from there?

But even factory reset didn't help me to solve issues with my phone before.

Could it be cause by me having a flight? X ray machine or altitude, because before that i didn't have that ,any problems with it.

Please advise, because atm this phone is almost as good as a brick.

Hey NightSovereign,

Welcome to Android Forums!

I'm John from the Nexus Help Forum, so I've been following your thread over there.

Hi Night,

I'm sorry to hear that your Nexus 6P is giving you such trouble. The 6P has a great camera, so I certainly understand how frustrating it is when it doesn't behave.

Let me first mention that I've taken my 6P on several flights without any problems; I don't think that the scanner or altitude alone would be able to cause the problems you are experiencing.

Do you have a third-party file manager installed? If you don't have one, the aptly-named File Manager from Asus is a good basic one that I can recommend. You might want to check in the Internal Storage > DCIM > Camera folder to see if your photos appear there. You can also disable the Hide system files option from within the app's settings and look to see if Internal Storage > DCIM > .thumbnails holds any low-resolution versions of the photos, which (while not ideal) might be at least better than nothing. If not, though, I'm not sure there's much hope to retrieve the lost photos.

Short of performing a factory reset, you might try sideloading a Rescue OTA onto your device. This wouldn't erase any of your apps or data, but would fully reload the operating system and core apps (like the Camera), hopefully resolving your problems in the process. You can find a great step-by-step guide for that here: Applying a Rescue OTA to a Nexus 6P.

Cheers,
John

I don't want to confuse things by making different troubleshooting suggestions in both places, but I did want to let you know that your post here wasn't being ignored.

I hope that we're able to assist you with getting these problems resolved. :)

Cheers (again),
