Similar to my Toshiba thrive, the Nexus 7 also connects via usb to cat5 adapter.
Let N7 boot up and be fully awake, disable wifi, but not in airplane mode, connect usb/cat5 adapter (with micro usb adapter also.)
N7 will pull DHCP address that you can see in wifi settings, advanced.
Good trick for those of us in corp world, with no wifi.
