Help Nexus 7 DEAD

Lurker
I have a google nexus 7 (2012 version I think, it was the first version out with a front facing camera)

However it hasn't been charging properly and it stopped working a few months ago, I have tried everything that the internet has suggested and no luck. Does the battery need replacing or is there a different fault?

Cheers

I had a slowly dying Nexus 7 2012. The problem was that the micro-USB connector on the front is made of bits of folded kitchen foil. It is all too easy to break or distort. For about £10 I bought (eBay) and installed a replacement.

There are videos on how to do this out in Googeland.

Here is just one of them:

Nexus 7 I/O Assembly Cable Replacement - iFixit

Probably not the best but it shows what you need.

It turns out to be easy to open the thing – I invested in a set of opening tools, which I didn't need because the replacement parts came with adequate if rudimentary tools – and after that the repair is a five-minute job.

One way to diagnose this part is to insert the charger lead, and then to put a bit of pressure on it in different directions. If it suddenly seems to be charging properly when you get the angle right, this may be the problem. You can also replace the battery at a very reasonable price.

This is very possible. I had a similar failure and the repair, as stated above, really was simple.

Hi all, I've replaced the battery today and the tablet now powers up. But I think the microUSB socket also needs replacing. It charged up to 65%, I should of left it plugged in, used it down to 40% battery...I've plugged it back in and its been sitting on 49% for a couple of hours now.

My N7 (2012) went dead yesterday. It had 56% charge 2 days ago but yesterday the screen was dead, I thought it had fully discharged (I never let that happen) so kept it for charging 2.5 hrs yesterday & 2 today no luck, its dead as a dodo  Its just 19 months old

Just ordered a new USB/Headphone unit on ebay - check out my temporary solution until the package arrives: I've soldered red and black leads unto two safety pins, and charging the device through the 4 pins on the side (1=black, 4=red). Apart from being ugly it seems to have been successful so far! Happy hacking :)
