Nexus 7 problems after update

I have the 2013 Nexus 7. It received the update yesterday and now the touch screen is unusable for typing with random characters and multiple characters being generated with each touch when using the keyboard. Is this unique to my unit?

Further to the above. The keyboard and tablet are virtually useless at this point. Have done a factory reset but the problem persists. Every touch generates random characters, often multiple characters. Backspace key also may generate characters. A sharp tap with my fingernail is more likely to give me the desired character, but even this is not reliable.
