Help Nexus 7 Stock Email App Set Up Problem

Problem setting up email account in stock Email App - can connect to incoming server but not outgoing. Same prob with k-9 mail!

OK on nexus 4 , but Nexus 7 2012 no go?

Make sure you have the correct SMTP server name, the correct port, the correct security, the correct login type and the correct login and password if needed.

+1 , more often than not having the wrong security protocol selected (often ssl on or off) causes email services to fail.

Also make sure you have enabled POP/IMAP access to your email accounts.

Modern web based email accounts such as Gmail, similar others, and even your own ISP require you to enable remote access protocols such as IMAP in order to be reachable.

You can find those settings in your master email login, or call your email/internet provider for details.

I have exactly same settings selected on Nexus 4 and no problem - the N4 was set up about 6 months ago. I'm using the correct server names/security settings as N4 but N7 wont have it.

Im thinking its the initial 'handshake' the tablet performs with outgoing server, perhaps the wi-fi connection might be an issue for the outgoing data ?

Im going to check wi fi etc., may also check with Virgin support re up to date server names.

Have now changed security setting from 'none' to SSL/TSL and it has connected. The working N4 has 'none' selected though!

A further question - if I receiveve an email on N7, if I open Outlook and check emails in Outlook, the email received on N7 doesnt come into Outlook, so Server appears to know it has previously been received on N7. Is there a way to enable Outlook to receive emails already received on mobile device?

You're looking at the wrong end. If you're using Exchange or POP3 protocols, you have to tell the N7 to "leave emails on server" or equivalent. Then you'll have to delete them manually. Once you read an email with a browser set to delete the email from the server (the default in most email programs), it's not there for Outlook to fetch.

(Using IMAP protocol, you have to delete the email - IMAP doesn't default to deleting.)
