Help Nexus 7 USB Connection to Windows XP PC?

rbscairns

Newbie
have an ASUS Nexus 7 32GB + 3G with Android 4.2.2. I want to connect using the USB cable to my PC running Windows XP Home SP3 operating system.

I have spent days searching and trying many different methods to get my Nexus 7 to appear on my PC's "My Computer" windows. So far, with no success. Others have been able to do this, so I am obviously doing something wrong.

So, to start with a clean sheet, I have uninstalled from my PC; Microsoft's MTP Porting Kit, Google's Android ADB Interface driver, and Microsoft's Windows Media Player 11.

Starting with my "clean sheet" what must I do to USB connect my Nexus 7 to my Windows XP PC so that the Nexus 7 appears in the "My Computer" window so that I explore and transfer files?

If your PC and Nexus7 are on the same WIFI, AirDroid is a simple and easy to use solution. Don't need the USB cable at all. Only issue is the Nexus Camera does not scan the QR code so you have to type in the passcode. Still very easy to use.

When you connect the N7 it should automatically appear in My Computer as a multimedia device - note that it does not appear as a drive letter though you can drag and drop to it just like a drive letter. I know this works with WinXP because I've used it myself.

In Settings tap Storage, then tap the three dot menu and USB computer connection. The setting should be MTP, but I've occasionally had to change the setting from MTP to PTP then change it back for the PC to recognise the N7. I can't remember if I had to connect and disconnect the USB cable in between changing the setting and changing it back.

Also if you use a lock code of any form you need to unlock the tablet before connecting it.

That you Ginglish, Airdroid allows me to do what I want.

Jhsrennie, I will give it a go later today when I have time and report back here.
