Nexus 7 vs kindle

Morning,
I have kindle with several books on it.i am seriously thinking of buying Nexus 7 tablet.can I replace the kindle with the tablet as a reading device by using kindle app and synching all my books?What is the experience like?
I don't want to carry 2 large devices with me,especially when travelling.
Advice would be appreciated.

Edit: BTW, my wife has a regular Kindle and uses the Kindle app both on my phone and tablet. She has no problems finding, getting and reading her Kindle content. Do a Google images search for "kindle app tablet android" to get a feel for how it works. And check out this:
