Nexus 7 won't charge or turn on

When my Nexus 7 is connected to the charger the battery icon doesn't show up but when I hold the power button down the battery icon shows up empty PLEASE HELP
 
Did you let the battery go completely flat? Which model do you have? The new one or last years?

Try leaving it on charge overnight (or even longer), see if that makes a difference.
