Help Nexus 9 is laggy and slow

Hello fellow nexus niners,

I have noticed over the past couple of months that my nexus 9 is increasing becoming laggy, but it does not happen all of the time, and I'm not sure why. I do not overload with apps, I simply browse the web and/or watching videos. I clear the system cache every now and then, as well as using AVG auto cleaner to clean up unnecessary space. My RAM is never at 2GB (usually 30-70% capacity) when its laggy either, so what might be causing this lag?

Mine seems ok but I regularly clean flash roms onto it, flashed 6.0 the other day and all good so far.

Mine is shocking and I'm stuck with it under contract till August 2017 so.... Following instructions on another thread/forum I just wiped the cache and after rebooting I'm going to set it up 'as new'. Looking elsewhere there were suggestions that the Nougat update would improve things but so far it hasn't.

It's so disappointing, not least because of how much this is setting me back over the 2 year contract, but because my Nexus 5 phone was (and probably still is) brilliant and is one of the reasons I went with the N9. My husband as the N7 and doesn't report or moan about any issues with it, and he's on that a lot more than the PC these days. Mine lags constantly, Chrome keeps stopping and I have to tap numerous times sometimes before it will respond, be it popping up the keyboard for me to type or opening a link/page/picture, whatever. Consequently I end up just using my phone instead.

I mainly use it for social media, there's no music and very few pictures on it. I don't play games. Every time I use another tablet (work, in a store/shopping) I'm reminded of how rubbish mine is and it really shouldn't be that way.

Anyway I'll see if this full reboot/reset works.

Well it's already quicker but of course there are no apps on it. It does seem counterintuitive to not have any apps on it when that's kinda the point of having a tablet/mobile device. I'll just add a handful that I use and see how it goes

Could be the AVG auto cleaner making it lag, as it's "cleaning" in background. Quite frankly you don't need task killers and "cleaners" like that with Android, and can be detrimental to a phone or tablet's performance, same with other "free" snake-oil task killer, "CPU cooler", "battery doctor" and other "cleaner" things.

Quite frankly, the Nexus 9 over heats reading news articles. I have not install anything like a cleaner. I manually periodically clear the cache.

Mine had started to get sluggish running Pure Nexus, flashed back to stock and same thing.
Chrome slow to load or fail to respond.
Flashed the latest version of Lineage and back to normal.
