Nexus One on AT&T or Verizon?

I live in the Bay Area. I have an iPhone on AT&T. I was waiting for the Nexus One phone on Verizon because of AT&T's crappy network here. (It's my first time on AT&T)

A friend of mine who lives in SF got an unlocked Nexus One on AT&T and has no signal problems. He says the iPhone as a phone device is also the problem.

I went through an Asian and European unlocked phone phase years ago and I could get Cingular signals wherever, so I can see his point.

Now I'm confused and more importantly, impatient.

I read rumors that the Nexus One won't work on CDMA as well as it's unlocked AT&T and T-Mobile versions. Is this true?

If I buy an unlocked AT&T Nexus One and still hate the network, is there a way to use that phone through Verizon once it's available? Or will I need to buy another Nexus One on Verizon?

I really want the Nexus One because it has the scroll ball thingy, which I've always said I wish my phones had on the bottom of the phone. I won't go to Sprint because I had to sue them years ago for moving my contract date around. (I won)

Thanks for your help!

It's unlikely you'll get to move your Nexus One to a different provider mid-contract, without having to pay a hefty fee (if at all). I believe, here in England anyway, you need to pay at least

Most likely, you'll get better service with the verizon version than the AT&T, depending on your area I guess. The rumors of it won't work well on cdma are completely crap as there's no way or reason to predict that (and I've heard verizon tests phones better when they first come out).

Maybe more importantly, with AT&T you have to pay full price where with verizon you could get it at a nice subsidized price.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that you will not be able to use an unlocked At&t phone on Verzion because of the chip sets. At&t runs GSM and Verizon/Sprint use CDMA - so different chip sets.

There are hybrid devices that can work on GSM and CDMA but the N1 isn't one of them.

Link? The only thing I can think of is that there's no simultaneous voice and data on Verizon.
