You do know that there is a great deal of lies, fabrication and misinformation about the N1 since it came out. Quite unlike any other I ever seen for a phone. Well, maybe the iphone. There is an orchestrated effort to make this phone a failure. Well, some of us can see through this BS for what it really is...

So having your screen spontaneously crack in your pocket is not a flaw? There are also many reports of the screen cracking from as little as a 3 feet drop (or even from a coffee table). Does it happen to everyone? No, but to enough people which warranted many posts on various Android forums. There needs to be a consistency in quality.

Keep in mind there is also the issue of dust getting under the screen... like seriously? Can't keep it sealed enough to ward off dust?

Also the touch screen sensor issue is a major failure on HTC's part too (although Google is just as much to blame) Maybe the prototypes were of high quality, but these are issues which should have been addressed before the product even launched.

Nobody knows what exactly happened. N1+backpocket while sitting=fail.
But there are some problems with the N1 that users are reporting. I blame the tech companies for thinking it is OK to ship a product half-baked and have the consumer blinded by the online hype to come up with excuses as to why the problem is a result of the media, rival companies, fanboys, etc.

If there's a problem, it has to be acknowledged and fixed by the consumer and company. Otherwise you end up with a situation like the AT&T/iPhone- it's ok for the iPhone not to be a fully working device and to be a breakthrough hit. If the n1 is flawed, don't buy it. Htc will then get the message to improve or get out. Buying a flawed product reinforces companies to continue releasing unfinished products.

I was looking forward to the phone. I passed on the Droid to wait for it to be launched on the Verizon Network. How would I already have it? Are you dense? Unlike some people, I don't accept the crap companies dish out; you need to ask questions, do research, and speak out to get change to happen.

This is clearly you just venting frustration of some sort on this forum, because i hope that YOU were NOT expecting a NEXUS 1 for have the same KIND OF GLASS THAT A BUILDING HAS... if you want to compare a screen of a phone, please do us all a favor and compare it to something that is comparable to it! ok, compare Orange to Orange, NOT a Apple to Orange, Yes while they are both fruit and they are both sweet, it doesn't mean they are the same!
Now, the glass you find in a car is a completely different design glass then the one you find in a building. they are design with a different job and with a completely different combination of materials and what not... Now... the screen in a nexus one. What DO you want from it? to stop a bullet on its path? its a phone with a screen that if too much pressure is done to it, it will crack, com'on lets do a test. Go home and grab ur LCD/LED tv and sit on it. you'll say no it will break. okay, then why is this phone different?

When I read his post it looked like he's thinking of buying the phone and doing his research before he does. Maybe a phone shouldn't stop a bullet, but it should be sturdy enough to take at least minimal abuse. Most phones (including touchscreens) can take repeated drops without the screen breaking.

Also your comparison of a TV to a phone is as bad as his to a car windshield or skyscraper glass. A TV is not meant to be carried everywhere you go, like a phone is. I don't care how awesome a phone is, if it has to be treated like an egg, I'm not buying one.

Yeah, I've seen that too and I was happy about it. But considering all the reported issues, either they don't do it enough and there is an inconsistency in quality control... or it's 100% Grade-A bull shit. Because in the end, that's just a marketing video, the end result is broken screens and HTC's answer to the problem, "People sometimes forget that it doesn't belong in pockets."

On one hand, I have a marketing video on YouTube by Google. On the other hand I have real reports by actual people; who would you believe?

I also searched "HTC Hero screen crack" (because I have one) and there was only 3 listings. I guess it could be some sort of conspiracy against the N1, but if I were in the market for a new phone I would hold off on purchasing an N1.

Edit: LOL, I just went back and looked at the Hero search that I did. The first listing was about an N1 screen crack, and only 2 listings on the first page for the Hero. Maybe the N1 is just too thin?

Definitely a conspiracy... that HTC has commented on: HTC on Nexus One cracked screen: "They don't go in pockets" - Crave at CNET UK

"Putting a phone in a tight pair of jeans and sitting down would usually cause the kind of damage," suggested our support guy. He agreed that it's possible that a small crack could spread over time, like a ding in a car window.(What? An analogy involving a car's windshield? Sounds familiar?)
HTC support told us that a common cause of cracked screens is "putting it in handbags and getting knocked around by keys, because it's not in the pouch." The Nexus One comes with a neoprene case included in the box.
HTC told us that the cost for repairing a cracked screen like ours would be around

interesting, i just did a bit of reading and it seems as the crack comes from the inside, similar to how in "Aliens" the Xenomorphs, after developing in the chest cavity and when matured, they pop out the chest.
It seems like something from the inside is causing the phones to crack. The test that HTC puts their phones through, are meant to replicate damage caused from an external source. However the damage witness by some users even some cellphone review staff seems to come from pressure coming from the inside of the phone. I'm guessing that a statement from HTC should be in the horizon, however there are a great deal of Nexus one hater out there too...

If the screens are really breaking on their own, then i guess its better off to move on to the next phone. Its not like the Nexus One is the only phone with impressive features. There is also the HTC Desire, the only differences is the absence of dual mics, a optical track ball, and a little bit of more ram memory (minus one mic for extra RAM seems like a good trade to me)
and then again there is also some talk of the next nexus, the nexus two

I know what you mean, i have a 2008 sidekick from tmobile and my contract is almost up and i have had this phone for already 2 years, i gave my gf a mytouch just so i could see how good the android OS is, and i like it, so i also wanted a Nexus one, even more since it would only cost me $179.00 if i wait out the remainder 4 months for my contract to end.
However, now seeing that IF the screen crack and its passed its warranty which is 2 weeks warranty according to what I've read. then its not worth it. You pay 180 bucks for a phone, the screen breaks and it could be from 150-250 to fix it?

Just wait it out, after all... its a pain to get a Nexus One. and if you have to go through all this, then is a pain to maintain a Nexus One... Other better HTC phones will come...
