Taking a Knee during the national anthem.

this was started last year.. as a non-violent protest against unfair police shooting against minorities (blacks).

Trump shows his true colors by saying Charlotte racist white marcher had "good people". The were yelling hate and carrying torches and weapons. but black NFL non-violent protester are "Son of bitches".

what are your thoughts???

That's telling me I need to install the Yahoo Sports app. I'm not doing that. Does Yahoo(Verizon) want people to view their site or what?

Free speech is all good. My concern is that political discussions lead to rational people acting irrationally. If this thread goes 25 posts without someone acting foolish, then I will be surprised. Happy surprised, but very surprised.

Personally, I think free speech has not been infringed in any way. Those players answer to the owners, who do NOT have to let them have this privilege. Those players can legally be fired for their actions. The POTUS absolutely has the right to say what he said. That's not me agreeing or disagreeing with him or those players, just stating facts.

No, not really. He should be held to a higher standard and learn to use his words better. What's more troubling is that he still doesn't understand what's going on and is on a mission to quell everything that is a free USA. I'm hoping he reads the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and has someone explain them to him.

this is a .. Politics & Current Affairs .. subforum.

but yeah.. because it a super-charged subject.. it might get out of hand.

but I feel it is a needed discussion.

the owners have the right to do as they please.. make rules and policies as they please...

but for the POTUS.. a political leader and someone who is voted to represent every SINGLE person living in the USA.. He should NOT tell others to punish someone for expressing their opinion! To use his influence to sway the public away from a CONSTITUTIONAL right!!!

POTUS should be protecting the public right to express.. even if He does NOT like the message.
Like the right of a KKK group to march... peacefully!

do you see the difference?

Sorry, any given supremist of any race, color, creed, etc.... has the exact same rights as any other citizen. Foolish and inflammatory speech is still protected, no matter who utters or "expresses" it.

Yes, I do. From a legal standpoint, do you see the difference in what the players are doing vs what POTUS is saying.

I sort of agree with you. Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if you are in a position of power, you should be very careful of what you say.

yes.. true...
i agree....

but POTUS is working against that ideal!

I'm a Chiefs fan, and a fan of football over all. 40+ years at this point. As the years have gone by (especially the past 10 or so) I find myself caring less about the the game and more about my sanity. It's always something, someone is beating their wife, selling drugs, killing some one because they have brain damage and now kneeling. If I wanted to watch drama and insanity I'd watch reality TV.

Look, it's simple, this is meant to further "quiet" the American people, to further remove our freedoms, to further subdue us. I have a right to feel police have been treating people of color (and others) poorly, abusing their power. I have experienced it first hand. So for NFL owners and the US gubment to quiet the players standing up to discrimination (by kneeling) ... I'm done.

Sad too cause I was stoked about watching Mahomes. But ... some things are more important. Like leaving a world for my kids I am not 100% embarrassed by.

All this was a non issue before a few years ago because they NEVER CAME TO THE FIELD during the anthem. They used to stay in the locker rooms before (except during the Super Bowl and the conference championship games)

I don't know why this was changed but the league (and this abysmal commissioner) have done too many things to try and fix what isn't broken.

Goodell is a dunce and should be replaced because he has singlehandedly destroyed the league. Look at his other boneheaded decisions (See Ray Rice for example)
