nicknames not available in messaging

i know this must be because of something that i have done but i don't know what it is 😊 when i begin a new text message, nicknames are no longer available... when i type the nickname to access the contact, the phone acts like it does not have any idea that that nickname belongs to a contact. i have checked the contacts and the nicknames are still in place. there is something that I have disconnected between the messaging and the contacts. messaging DOES have permission to access contacts and google play services does have permission to access both messaging and contacts.

Yes most likely you should have set your nickname in your account it ask you would like to set a nickname.
So go back to your account information and change the name you would like to be presented. Cheers..

no, not MY nickname... when i start to type nicknames for my contacts, messaging isn't recognizing them at all - or if it does recognize them, it's only offering the email address, which isn't useful in messaging. i want the phone number to come up when i type the nickname, like it used to.

from what i can determine, this is only happening with contacts stored in my google account. contacts stored on the phone seem to work fine.

thanks. that's a great suggestion. i had hoped to solve the root cause and understand why the UE suddenly changed, but i could certainly just abandon that aspect and move the contacts.

Changed from all to custom.
Chose Google account -- --- R2E note: i chose google AND all my other accounts as well, and under each account i chose all the radials.
Checked all radial in the Google account. Prior imports etc. -- --- R2E note: i didn't see an "all" radial so i individually chose each radial under google.​

i followed these steps and now it works fine.
