Night 'shutdowns'?

Can't figure out why my new Samsung J7 Prime keeps shuting down when left on charge overnight... in the morning I have to restart from scratch - but worse, alarms fail to sound and charging stops too!
Help / advice / suggestions please!

It doesn't sound right. As it's a new phone, recommend you should return it as faulty under Samsung warranty.

The only thing I can think of is that there is some protection circuitry being tripped because it's either getting too hot or too high a voltage. I agree with @mikedt I'd see if you could return it.

As I bought the phone in UK and I'm now abroad for some months, I was hoping to avoid a return.
Lunatic, I think you may have put me right - it's probably been overheating on overnight charge.
I've started using another charging lead, also leaving airspace and so far the problem hasn't reappeared.
So, fingers crossed - and thanks again!
