no cdma = no switching to 3g to save battery?

So when the merge is complete and the cdma gets shut down does that mean I can't switch the Galaxy s3 to cdma(3g) when I want to save battery and the signal would be stuck on LTE??

That's correct but with VoLTE you can put it on LTE only which will stop the CDMA & EvDO radios

that will be a huge battery killer. 4g should definitely be turned off and use 1x/3g or wifi to save battery life and to use the 4g when you really need it

i believe only having the 4g radio active will save battery. it will get rid of of the stress the phone goes through by having to deal with both cdma and lte radio. so when volte is implemented, there will be constant speed and no more heavy strain to the phone ...

He's talking about when tmobile shuts off our CDMA towers in 2015 so when they do that if you put 1x/3G you will get absolutely no signal whatsoever

Right and if i want the galaxy s3 i would at least be able to switch it to 3g.

If all else fails I'll just turn the data off if all else fails.

but why you do ever want to go back to 3g when LTE is way better, and it'll even better when they bet rid of cmda....

Well since lte kills the battery i would want to switch to 3g and conserve battery.

Also when the 4g signal drops then what? There would be no 3g to go back to

well that's logical yeah, i always have lte turned off because my esteem discharges kinda quick by having both radio working, but when mentropcs get's rid of cmda then it'll be useless to go back to 3g since there won't be any more cmda. there will only be LTE, besides everything will be fast and precise...

its not gonna happen for another 3 years. by that time the phones we have now will be dinosaurs, LTE will be built out into all of T-metro's spectrum and phones with LTE will be more energy efficient.

not something anyone should worry about at this time.

That's true, I'm not quite sure why people are worrying about it

Mainly I would want to at least still be able to use the Galaxy s3 for as long as I can because I don't think I would want another phone for a while....especially the $500 I would pay for it. But I'm working on that.

So basically after the merge I would use the LTE on the S3 on T-mobile network but the CDMA would be useless.

All I know is that when the merge is complete I don't want my phone plan to be tampered with. If that should happen and I don't like the new plans I would feel bad for buying the phone just to realize about my loss for unlimited data.

Another option I see is people switching to T-mobile BYOP plan and have unlimited data for $69.00 which sounds like a good cool idea, but I'm already paying $55 which is cheaper.

idk I just want to at least get my hands on the S3 just wondering which is the best possible move :/

voLTE will be up and running in all metro markets by spring of next year so you might not need the CDMA radio anymore. though im not sure how they're gonna run that for legacy LTE phones.
