No display of cell signal strength bars or indicator

Nokia 3.1 factory unlocked, Android 8.1, Android One branded, Google Phone app, T-Mobile (USA) carrier ----- All brand new this week. The cell phone does not display any indication of cell signal strength such as bars or numbers. There's no setup setting anywhere for activating signal strength display. Nothing in hardware, Android, app, or carrier. I'm stumped. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get that display activated? Any ideas? Thanks!

Do you have other status indicators, such as the battery icon? Some launchers allow you to hide the status bar, so if they are all missing that would be my first guess.

(Of course in that case you would see the status bar whenever you used some other app, unless you've added something to force immersive mode all of the time).

Thanks. Lots of other status indicators. No idea what "immersive mode" is.

Sorry, I have the answer. The triangle icon in the status bar is the signal strength indicator. I was confused because all of my previous phones had "bars" as the indicator. I'm not at all up-to-date on this stuff. But thanks for your reply.

Yeah, Google have been doing solid signal icons for a few years now, so an Android One device would have that style.

Immersive mode is where the status and navigation bars are hidden (you can see them by swiping from top or bottom). Some games or media apps do this, but there are also apps you can use to make this permanent (or just hide one or the other). I'd not expect them to be there by default, but it was one way I could think that the signal icon might be missing.

Check your SIM card. Try re-seating it inside its slot. Or take your phone to T-Mobile service shop to check if you're getting a good cellular signal there and/or have them check that your SIM card is valid and working.
