Help No Email Push Notifications on 5.0.1

Lurker
Ever since updating to 5.0.1, I don't get notifications in my status bar for emails. The emails still sync, but I'm not being notified that I've received them unless I notice that the application now has a new number on it (i.e. the small orange circle showing a number like 5). I use the regular Mail app, not Gmail. I have a Yahoo account and a Microsoft Exchange account, both are experiencing this issue. I made sure notifications are turned on and the sync time is as frequent as possible. I also made sure that under my data settings auto-sync is turned on. How can I fix this? I am getting screwed over because I'm not reading emails soon enough and missing deadlines. This is probably the fifth or sixth separate time I've had this issue in the 5 years I have had an Android and I'm getting really sick of dealing with it. Any and all help is very appreciated.

You say you use the "regular email app", but that varies between phones so doesn't actually tell us what app it is.

I've never met this problem with 3rd party apps (K9, Kaiten, Aquamail are ones I've used for extended periods). But the obvious thing is to check your mail app's settings and make sure that notifications are enabled.

As I said in my original post, explicitly, I already made sure notifications are turned on. It is the stock Mail app for the GS4, that's fairly straight forward.

That is a Samsung app, rather than a generic Android one, so it might be better to ask in our S4 forum. I did do a quick search of that forum and didn't see other complaints about this, but at least there you'd have more people using the same app+OS combination.

I assume that the email app's notifications aren't being blocked in Settings > Sound and notifications > Notifications > Application Notifications? No reason for it to be, and as it's new to Lollipop it wouldn't explain the problems you've had in the past, but if that was for some reason miss-set it would override the app's own notification setting. That's the only other thing I can think of.
