For some weird reason, the GPS on my unactivated Samsung Galaxy S II will not work at all. It does not acquire the satellites. The only way i can locate it is on Wi-Fi through the IP addresse. Is it due to the fact that it's not activated on Virgin Mobile? -->If yes, then how could my previous phone, a Kyocera Rise, works perfectly and has no such problems and it's never been activated? Is it possible to get the Virgin Mobile plan for 1 month and then stop the contract so i could use the GPS after the activation period ?

Welcome to the guest forums!

A phone doesn't have to be activated in order to use GPS. It is a separate radio.

Does it acquire any satellites at all? There are apps in the Play Store that can perform this test for you.

Is this a new phone or one that you have had for a while? If it is new phone, I would take it back. If it is one you have had a while, have you checked all the boxes in settings for GPS, including standalone GPS? Have you checked the screws on the back of the phone to confirm that they aren't loose? This had been an issue on several Samsung phones.

Hope those help! If not, please join our forums so we can help some more!
