Help No internet access with USB tethering

I've successfully connected my Galaxy S7 Edge to my Windows 10 PC and enabled USB tethering on the S7. Windows detected the S7 as a network adapter and created the device in the Network Connections page of the Control Panel. Furthermore, it enabled the connection and shows it in the system tray.

However, the system tray icon has the yellow triangle with exclamation mark and reports "No internet access". The computer appears to be connected to the S7, but it can't open any web pages.

Selecting "Diagnose this connection" in the the Windows Control Panel reports "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem".

ipconfig reports:

Ethernet adapter Ethernet 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::d957:a6e:2286:23f3%13
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.42.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.42.129

Using a website's ip address still does not allow me to access it, so I think this is more than a dns issue.

The phone, by itself, can access the web without issue.

Any ideas how I can get this working?

Have you tried temporarily turning off your Win10 firewall to see if that might be blocking access? If it is you'll just need to give your tethered connection access. If not, maybe try disabling IPv6 for that S7 connection in Network Connections.

My carrier is Sprint.

I know without a doubt that they charge for WiFi tethering, because when I enable it, I get a message stating that I must add it to my plan. However, I don't get the same message when I enable USB tethering. My expectation was that since I didn't get the message to add USB tethering to my plan that it must be no additional charge. Maybe that was a bad assumption.

I will check with Sprint.

My carrier is Ting, a MVNO that uses Sprint's network, and hotspot/tethering is a feature that's part of the base $6 monthly charge. Since you already have a Sprint-CDMA phone switching should be relatively hassle free. But be sure to go check if it's even worth the bother. There's a savings calculator that helps you do a comparison.

If you're on Sprint's unlimited plan and tethering isn't a frequent need than depending on your usage habits you might want to stay with Sprint. I rely more on WiFi than cellular connectivity so it works out well for me but if you use mobile data a lot than Ting might not be a very viable option.

You could also just call up Sprint and tell them you're shopping around for a different carrier because you do need tethering. Your call might get bounced over to their retention dept. and you can tactfully negotiate a deal you'll stay with Sprint for free tethering.

My guess is tethering isn't allowed without the extra charge. It won't matter which method of tethering you use.
