Help No longer says Boost Mobile

After the latest updates I noticed that my lock screen, notification panel, and the "Network" in my Status section all say Samsung instead of Boost Mobile.
Not that I mind and it doesn't seem to be hurting anything just wondered how/why that could happen.
Software version is L710VPUNDC
Hardware is L710.14
Android is 4.4.2

sh0v3lhead follow this instructions it should work on the problems you described.

1- Run ##72786# through your phone dailer. This will only restart your phone and try to repair it. Let the phone completely finish and hit ok where prompted.

2- If option above fails then proceed to next step, but first backup everything you want to your computer or SD card as the next steps will factory reset your phone.

3- For those of you having this problems.
- Samsung displayed in the pull down menu as well as in the network type.
- Initial customization settings have been lost, and the My Account app has been replaced with a MobileZone app that doesn't work due to the system upgrade to KitKat.

There is a fix in the PlayStore, its a app called Refresh Customization by Samsung mno. download the app and select Opt1, if it is unsuccessful try Opt2.

There is no doubt that I will at least root this phone sometime soon but in the mean time I presume it will work just fine as is?

You don't need to root your phone to fix this. Just follow the above instructions. :)

I understand that. I was planning on rooting this new phone once I've done all my homework. Just wondered if I opt not to fix this will my phone still work ok.

sh0v3lhead only you know the answer to the question your asking. The only way to see if your phone will work or not if you opt out of the fix recommended is for you to play with it and see if everything works. Everyone else that came here looking for help is because something stopped working after updating to KitKat. If your phone is working fine and you don't mind it saying Samsung instead of Boost then your good to GO.

Boost mobile and Virgin mobile run the same FIRMWARE, follow the instruction from the post above to fix the problems with your phone.

Actually I'm happy the Virgin logo + Diddly tune no longer plays. Now it just shows the SAMSUNG logo and goes Beep once and its booted.
