No mobile data when connected to car bluetooth

I got a 2012 volkswagen and it has bluetooth connection available for calls and music. Once i connect everything is fine but mobile data turns off and i cant turn it on. Once i try it says - no sim card, please insert it.
What might be the problem?

Check your sim card for integrity.

Check your sim card for integrity.

It worked fine for the 2 previous phones i owned (iphone 5s and xiaomi redmi note 3) so the sim card is not an issue in my opinion
