No more Google Voice - SMS back up?

Hi All

Have been using Google Voice for SMS back up, etc. since getting my first Samsung Galaxy phone 7 years ago.

Google Voice was discontinued in May.

What are people using to back up their SMS?

ie. Apple has a sync function across devices, through 'the cloud' or something....SMS's i.e. are rooted in the user's Apple ID account. If the user loses the device, the beta is in the cloud.

Am I missing something? Does Samsung not offer something comparable?

I am about to switch to a replacement device - I think I will lose all of my SMS beta.

I would think there is third party software, but that is so strange to me. What are people using?

Help is appreciated. Thanks!

Just where did you hear that Google Voice has been discontinued? There's been no mention of this in the general online tech media. Granted I've never relied on it for texting but it's still working fine for me as far as WiFi calling.
As for a reliable backup utility, I really like 'SMS Backup & Restore'. It's worked out well over the years as a good way to transfer SMS messages and phone call logs from one device to another.

Thanks for the info. My mistake - Google Voice discontinued it's Sprint integration July 15. Because I had been using my cell number as my google voice number my SMS messages crap out after July 15.

I will try SMS back up and Restore, thank you. I still find it strange that Samsung does not offer a cloud sync the way apple does. What gives?

I've been using it all along with no issue, not sure it's going anywhere. I text, call and use it for voicemail (and backup texts on the app @svim linked).

Thanks so much, last I changed out devices, I think I recall the Smart Switch didn't go so smoothly. I will move to the new device today, and will again try the smart switch utility, after SMS back up and restore finishes backing up to my google drive. 90K text messages.

It seems the SMS backup and restore is working, I switched devices, kept the backup file in my google drive just in case. Didn't want to restore the whole file, it's a just in case kind of thing, 'cause it hogs so much memory. The smart switch utility did not copy any of the SMS messages, and missed a bunch of apps, unless a different switch software was used....but I had gone through the activation with Sprint while on chat with my tablet, and would have thought it was employed. New User here for sure! Thanks for your help.
