No more updates for us on the Note 4?

Hi AZ, Samsung has already announced that the Note 4 is to get Nougat, so that puts at least a couple more years on it, you never know it just might be long enough for Samsung to get back to making proper phones with a replaceable battery. Phil

Yeah,
I have not seen that yet either....
as to whether Verizon actually implements it, is another guess.

I would really like to see them bring the Note 4 up to the Nougat level, and someone provide us a Rooted ROM for Nougat on the Note 4...

My Note 4 is currently rooted

Hi, I can't find the article, but I definitely read that the Note 4 is getting the update in the first quarter of 2017, I am pretty sure I am not hallucinating! Phil

That means, that maybe, about 14 months from now, Verizon "might" get around to releasing it...
Assuming, that Samsung actually releases a version for the Note 4.

IMO, Samsung wants to sell more phones, and the Note 4 will get left out in the cold.

Well, if you are feeling adventurous, you could always install a custom ROM to get you up to date. I would fully imagine that Nougat will be available soon here. That said, you may not have quite all components of the phone working 100%.

Regards,
Eric.

I have a bit of that problem right now with the ROM installed currently.
no app can "speak text" to you through the audio paths available.

I have several that are important to me, the major one that I used a lot, is for my Bluetooth headset. "BlueParrott MySay" which verbalizes the incoming SMS messages. for me, being in the car a lot, it lets me ignore the phone and I can hear what is sent to me.... if important enough, I stop the car, then reply back... but, the whole point of SMS is to leave a message for the recipient to be answered "when you have time".... it is not to be considered an emergency ever.

to extend that a bit, I have macros that Speak Text to me about certain phone conditions. the most important one to me, is "Battery Low 39 percent".... now I don't hear it anymore.... pissed me off a lot.

but, the light bulb turned on eventually and I wrote a macro to sense the low battery, and then it sends me a SMS message stating what is wrong.... the SMS tone for "Me SMS" is a peculiar sound that I recognize as a special message.... at least that way, I don't get caught with a dead battery now.

Remember, AZ, your phone is rooted & ROMmed, which means no OTAs for you. You get to wait until a Nougat ROM is developed for the Note 4 Developer Edition. Whether that ROM will be Gear VR compatible or not remains to be seen.

Oh, I knew that, I was just teasing about the normal Note 4 Verizon customers.

I have a 6.0 ROM located, but don't have the patience right now to study how to implement it.
my wife is still hospitialized with a severe foot infection on her only remaining foot.
Until that foot is stabilized and she is back home, I am not going to risk bricking my only phone.

Yesterday, the doctor cleaned it and took some specimens to send out for lab tests.. they need to find out why it has not healed up in the last two months?? if the infection is in the toe bones, they will be amputated to save the foot. that is the two outside small toes that are infected.

here is a pic of the wound.

Ouch, that looks painful. Please pass on my best regards to your wife!

Perhaps you should get your wife to start taking high dose vitamin D (about 5k IU per day). I suggested this to my father who has had sores on his lower legs for the last year and now they are almost better with no other intervention. I read that vitamin D boosts the immune system and heart function (incidentally it also helps to reduce prostate tumors, although that is not something that will trouble your wife). Since he was not getting out he had no way of making the vitamin on his own. If your wife has been house bound for a while (especially if she is used to strong sunshine) the lack of vitamin D may be a big factor.

That said: I am a computer scientist and not a doctor, so take this advice with a grain of salt.

In any case, I wish your wife a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Eric.

She is on all of the "good vitamins" D, E, K and others I can't remember...
they changed her antibiotic today, the one she has been on is not doing a very good job.....
lab test results dribbled in today, hope the rest show up tomorrow so the good doctors can clue in on how to "fix this".

one thing is for sure, until that wound is healed, and she can support body weight on it, she is not able to come back home...
she must be able to transition from bed to wheelchair to car, etc... or home is out of the question.

I just received an update this morning, it wasn't Nougat obviously, but it was quite a large update, I have no idea what it was, my phone is now showing version 6.0.1, I'm not sure what it was before, all I know is that on my Wi-Fi, which runs at 38mbps, it took a while to download. Phil
