No number next to sms showing how much unread messages

When I get sms I recive alert in the upper notification area and no number next to the sms app. I want the sms app to show how much unread sms I got. How do I do it?

By using a third party launcher like Nova Prime or Apex Pro, in conjunction w/ TeslaUnread (Nova) or Apex Notifier (Apex), both of which provide unread count badges. The launchers and extensions are available in the Play Store.

There isnt an app and not a launcher that can do what I want? Beacuse I like the original interface of nexus 6p.

There are, like using Tasker and Zooper Widget for the notification counts...

... but IMO, unless you can't live without the default Google Now launcher, both Nova and Apex are considerably better launchers (they both provide a lot more in the way of personalization options).
