No security tab in settings

I was wanting to use smart lock on my new phone, and discovered there is no security tab in settings on my phone to get to smart lock. I use android 7.1, and would appreciate any help in this matter about there being no security tab. Is this the way some android phones are set up? If so, then is there a way i can still use smart lock on my phone?

Some manufacturers do fiddle with the menu structure (Samsung is the obvious example), but I've no experience of Xiaomi software so can't say what they do.

However, how do you set up a PIN or fingerprint? Wherever those settings are is where I'd expect the ones you are after to live, and even if it's not called "Security" those things must be somewhere (I can't believe all Xiaomi owners go around with their phones unlocked).

Xiaomi phones use MIUI. If you have v 8 or above, smartlock appears to be disabled/removed. Don't know why, though.
