I have straight talk and sometimes when I travel no signal at all. I know signal is available because others in my party get reception. How do I adjust my signal strenght

What device are you using, do you know what frequencies it supports? Are the others in your party also on Straight Talk, are you all using the same tier 1 provider for the service (Verizon, t-mobile, AT&T)
As I understand it: With an AT&T network Straight Talk sim if I go to an area with t-mobile towers an no AT&T towers I have no service as Straight Talk as no roaming agreement for the Straight Talk AT&T sim on the t-mobile tower. But if I had a sim directly from AT&T I would have service there as AT&T has agreements with t-mobile to let there users use the tower. When you look at the coverage maps for which ever provider your Straight Talk service is provided by you have to ignore partner or roaming coverage areas.
