No sound in VLC video

I downloaded a video, mp4, and VLC plays it without sound, I tried adjusting the speakers but I guess that isn't the problem. I can get audio files to play with windows media player on this Dell Inspiron. Could it somehow have recorded just the video without the soundtrack? Also, there is a new version of VLC, 3.0.3, but both times I tried to download it, there was a message that the file was corrupted.

  • For the failed download of VLC, first uninstall the current version you have and try to install the new version.
  • The no sound issue could be an unsupported codec IE the way the ripper encoded the audio. Try these steps:
  1. Retry with latest version of VLC player,
  2. Try the video on your PC and see if there is sound, (not sure, but you may have tried this). If this is the case it is almost certainly a codex issue,
  3. If the above fails try MxPlayer from the playstore - will play almost anything and will notify you if there is a codex issue. (If this happens, IE it plays without sound visit the below link and follow the guide)

From what I can work out you cannot import updated codex into VLC player, so MxPlayer maybe the best option for this file.

Well, I just gave it another shot and it actually played the audio this time. Aside from some visual blurriness, it seems to be ok. Now all I have to do with this is figure out where the system has hidden it. What I have been doing is searching this pc, but is there a faster way?
